Site of the Month Teardowns
Each month Awwwards and the FWA each name one Site of the Month. This section works through those winners month by month from January 2020, with the same in-depth teardown of concept, visual design, interaction and front-end build, measured in a real browser.

Powerhouse Company
On the home page of the architecture firm Powerhouse Company, a photograph that a visitor clicks does not lead to a new page. The photograph itself grows until it becomes the cover of that project's page. The home page is a single wall of photographs, one for each of the firm's 75 projects, set in a 3D space that visitors can drag around and push away or pull closer. The newest project sits in the middle and the rest spiral outwards.

1917 Into the Trenches
The film 1917 plays as a single unbroken shot, and its promotional site, 1917 - Into the Trenches, tries just as hard never to cut. As a visitor turns the scroll wheel, they walk down the trench the crew built for the film, rebuilt in 3D from a scan of the real set. At the end of each stretch the site plays a clip from the film that picks up exactly where the trench leaves off. When the clip ends, the visitor is standing at the mouth of the next stretch, and the whole walk feels like one long take.

The Year of Greta
The Year of Greta turns 2019 for the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg into a statue surrounded by a ring of news. A pure white Greta stands on a rock in the fog. Each time a visitor scrolls a little further, the calendar moves on and the camera swings around her to a new angle, with that month's news photographs and videos hanging in the air beside her. By the end of the year the camera has travelled most of the way around her.

The Turn of the Screw
The Turn of the Screw turns an opera trailer into a night landscape a visitor can step into, and the cursor decides which singer is heard clearly. Translucent figures stand in the scene, and when the cursor rests on one of them, that voice moves from a distant echo to a clear voice right beside the ear. Once the cursor moves away, the voice slowly drifts back into the fog. A visitor can let all five chapters play on their own or follow the figures and listen.
